I come from a family of keen gardeners, and began gardening at an
early age. I have always loved the natural world and beautiful things.
I get a lot of pleasure from revealing the hidden and essential beauty of
a garden through my work. Gardening allows me to use my creativity in a
practical way. I also like to help people enjoy gardens that were
previously a worry and a burden.
I learnt a
great deal about plants at Sonning Common Herb Farm. I gained
considerable experience in greenhouse work, pricking out and potting on
thousands of seedlings. I also learnt the art of appropriate watering, and
developed a flair for container displays. I love working with wild flowers and herbs.
I
particularly enjoy border design. It is extremely satisfying to watch a
well planted border change with the seasons.
I began my horticultural training
in a twelve acre domestic garden, where I continue to work today. I
tend the vegetable garden, the fruit cage, the apple orchard, and the large herbacious borders. I can prune roses and small trees, and enjoy driving
tractors!
I have completed the
RHS National
Certificate in Horticulture.
